Weapons and Armor in Crimson Moon — Gear System Explained
Crimson Moon has no traditional classes: progression comes from leveling and the gear you bring back from runs. Here is how weapons, armor and upgrades work.
How does gear work in Crimson Moon?
There are no traditional classes. Progression is built on two things: leveling up your Nephilim and gathering equipment. During each run you fight enemies and Dead Gods and find gear; that gear becomes your build. This makes every piece you bring back meaningful — your weapon and armor choices are your “class”.
What weapon types exist?
The full launch weapon roster has not been catalogued by any source yet — that data is still being gathered from live play. What is confirmed so far:
- Melee weapons are the core of combat (“blood-soaked melée combat” per the official page)
- The Axe of the Gods is a named weapon included with the Deluxe Edition — see editions and pricing
- Nephilim powers provide temporary supernatural attacks on top of your weapons
What armor sets are known?
Three armor items are named by official and launch sources:
- Ceremonial Armor Set — cosmetic DLC included in the Deluxe Edition
- Sonai Magistrate Armor Set — free for all PS5 players at launch, per launch reporting
- Additional armor found as loot during runs (full loot pool unconfirmed)
Where do you get gear?
Gear drops during runs — fight through the wards of Gildenarch, defeat enemies and Dead Gods, and bring back what you find. The run-based structure means gear acquisition and risk are linked: harder runs bring greater rewards through the game’s dynamic difficulty scaling.
How do upgrades work?
Upgrades happen at the Church hub between runs, alongside NPC interactions and War Table planning. Detailed upgrade currency and costs are not yet officially documented — the in-game economy remains unconfirmed by any source as of launch day.
How does gear relate to bosses?
Your build decides which Dead Gods are winnable. Souls-inspired boss design means loadout and preparation matter as much as reflexes — plan your gear at the War Table, then commit to the run. New players should start with the beginner guide fundamentals before optimizing gear.
